The young Jewish singer Lola Blau hopes to start her theatre career in Austria, but has to flee from the Nazis. In 20 songs she tells her own story of passing through Switzerland, making the passage to the US, where she has a career. After the war she returns to Vienna, only to find that not much has changed. The story of Heute Abend: Lola Blau also reflects some of Kreisler´s experiences in exile. It is funny, moving, melancholy, with political criticism. It has (sadly) lost none of its relevance since its first production in 1971.

Der Haken (The Catch)

A new Theater Karussell production! I am honored to resume my relationship with this wonderful company after Extrawurst in 2023. So what about The Catch?
Like Extrawurst, The Catch is a comedy with a bite. Everyone needs an apartment, ideally one that’s affordable! Suddenly there´s one on the market, a beautiful flat in a prime location at a surprisingly low rent. Many are interested and we meet six characters in search for a flat, aiming to impress the landlord. Fights ensue, alliances are formed and discarded, but what unites them all is the question: What is the catch of the low rent and who is the invisible owner living one floor above? Lutz Hübner and Sarah Nemitz’s comedy with dramatic undertones deals with economic constraints, class society, and, last but not least, the question of what it means to be a good neighbor.
