The young Jewish singer Lola Blau hopes to start her theatre career in Austria, but has to flee from the Nazis. In 20 songs she tells her own story of passing through Switzerland, making the passage to the US, where she has a career. After the war she returns to Vienna, that the same thinking prevails, and that nobody is ever taking responsibility.

“Ah, Madame, you went to America. Well, it had to be. But now everything is over, forgiven and forgotten. (…) I didn´t have it as good as you, Madame. I was a lieutenant in the until the end of the war.” Herr Schmidt

It is funny, moving, melancholy, biting in its criticism. It has (sadly) lost none of its relevance since its first production in 1971.
